New Sustainability Committee established

Council has established a new Sustainability Committee to look at the current social and environmental challenges facing the Town of Walkerville area.

Council has established a new Sustainability Committee to look at the current social and environmental challenges facing the Town of Walkerville area, as well as to consider how to address these issues into the future.

At the 20 February 2023 Ordinary Meeting, Council appointed Elected Members to the Sustainability Committee and adopted a Terms of Reference for the Committee.

The new Committee includes Mayor Melissa Jones, Councillor John Zeppel, Councillor James Williams and Councillor Aman Kaur.

The primary purpose of the Committee will be to provide advice on:

  • Environmental sustainability – such as the conservation of natural resources and environmental issues, including emissions and waste; and
  • Social sustainability – such as impacts on people, including First Nations matters or human rights matters.

In the near feature, the Committee will be meeting to discuss opportunities and set an agenda.
