Walkerville came alive for SALA 2024

Town of Walkerville held its second 2024 SALA Festival event - Walkerville comes alive!

This year was bigger and better than ever, with artists and musicians located in multiple reserves and parks across the Township on Saturday, 24 August 2024.

From the Dixieland jazz floating through the air to the oils being spread across canvas, there was so much to see and hear at this SALA event.

At the Walkerville RSL laneway, Mia Fan did real-life drawing while showing attendees how to make their own 'good luck' bookmarks. Mia was joined by musician, Courteney Hooper, who played guitar and piano, singing a range of covers and original songs.

Mary P Harris Reserve was visited by live sustainable sculpturist, Swapna Namboodiri, and musician, Sundy Mantis, on vocals and guitar.

At Walkerville Oval, LennieDin undertook her live chalk art drawing. She was accompanied by Rueful Ben on the ukelele.

Crawford Reserve was bustling with activity thanks to Erika Walter, who showcased her expertise in paper quilling. She had two different musicians accompanying her over the day, including Adrian Daniele on piano accordion and Peri Kowal on harp.

Three Little Ducks @ Levi Park was the spot to visit to see a mosaic art being made live by Travis Cox. His art will be installed on a local stobie pole in Walkerville.

Down by the river in Willow Bend Reserve, Rebecca Nyalkba did a live Aboriginal dot painting, taking inspiration from her beautiful surroundings. The river was lively with smooth jazz in the air, provided by Nicole Hobson on saxophone.

Lastly, Hamilton Reserve was the picnic spot to be for the 2024 SALA event. Alice Kleinig demonstrated her live painting skills, while attendees engaged in a community art activity - making a collaborative collage art piece.  Picnic beats were provided by DJ Sam Lavers and the Little Blue Coffee Van supplied coffee.

Throughout the SALA event, a walking band - The Atlantic Street Band - brought toe-tapping and merriment wherever they travelled, applause following not far behind.

Town of Walkerville is excited to start planning for next year's event!
