Volunteering

Volunteering

Volunteers develop and strengthen the bond between Council and the community, and contribute to creating a vibrant, healthy and positive place to live.

The Town of Walkerville is fortunate to have an incredible range of inspiring, generous and helpful people volunteering their time and energy to support the community. There are residents who have been part of volunteer organisations that have been running for more than 30 years, those who have assisted in contributing almost half a million dollars to children’s education in the Township and others who simply give up their time to organise events that benefit the health and wellbeing of the community.

Where volunteers are engaged with Council activities, we strive to provide volunteers with the opportunity to be a part of a team where they feel valued and appreciated.

It is important for Council to ensure we find the right volunteer opportunity for you. To express an interest in volunteering, you will need to list your skills, experience and interests. If there is a volunteering position available relevant to your needs, we will contact you. If no volunteer roles are currently available, we will add you to our waitlist.

When you start a volunteer position at the Town of Walkerville, we want to make sure you feel comfortable and know what is required of you.

All our volunteer roles have personal and role requirements to ensure best fit for both the role and the individual.

Our volunteer selection process includes:

  • Completion of Volunteer Expression of Interest Form
  • Role interview for the selected program
  • Referee check
  • DHS screening (where necessary)

All successful volunteer applicants are also required to sign a Volunteer Agreement Form and Position Description prior to volunteering.

On first attendance, volunteers will attend an induction with both the WHS & HR Coordinator and a position-specific meeting with the relevant Council officer.

In addition to Council volunteer opportunities, there are a wide range of groups, associations and not-for-profit organisations which are also looking for volunteer support.
