The Town of Walkerville Collections Strategy guides the management of public display, storage, donations, loan out and deaccession of items in Council’s Civic Collection.
The strategy provides a formal process for managing existing items, as well as protocols for acquiring future items, accepting donated items and deaccessioning existing items. A number of items in the Collection are considered to be of local, State or national significance.
The Collections Strategy seeks to:
- Provide a strategic framework to ensure items are acquired in a systematic way and existing items are managed in an informed and culturally appropriate way;
- Identify items that are of particular local, State or national significance;
- Ensure the management of Council’s Civic Collection is in line with best practice Australian Industry standards, as endorsed by the Collections Council of Australia Ltd and the History Trust of SA.
