Walkerville came alive this 2023 SALA Festival

On Sunday, 13 August 2023, Town of Walkerville's event for the 2023 South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival was a huge success!

The first type of event of its kind for the Township, the Walkerville comes alive event had seven artists producing art live in their medium of choice, accompanied by a range of musical talents, throughout the Township.

The art and music trail gave the community a lovely route to walk while out and about on Sunday. The community also had the opportunity to go into the running to win some of the art made on the day.

This event received hugely positive feedback and Town of Walkerville is looking forward to seeing what it can provide at next year's SALA Festival.

Town of Walkerville thanks both the artists and musicians for their wonderful performances over the event, including:

Artists -

Deb Rooney for her painting, Nyalkba for her Aboriginal painting, Lucy Timbrell for her printmaking,  LennieDin for her chalk art, Alice Kleinig for her painting, Zein Akkad for her ceramics and Jordan Vick for her painting.

For the upcoming South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival, Walkerville will come alive with art and music!

Town of Walkerville will be bringing the community a truly unique SALA event, placing artists and musicians in the heart of the Township, from 10am-2pm on Sunday, 13 August 2023.

Follow our live art trail through Walkerville and discover a world of paint, clay, chalk and more, produced right before your eyes!

A total of seven artists will be using their chosen medium to create amazing art live for all to watch, and will be accompanied by talented musicians.

Outside of the Civic & Community Centre, painter Deb Rooney will be using the Sussex Hotel as inspiration for her painting that will showcase the village-like feel of Walkerville.

SALA - Walkerville Comes Alive

At Mary P Harris Reserve, Indigenous artist Rebekah Nyalkba will be creating a dot painting inspired by the Township streetscape.

Crawford Reserve will be host to Lucy Timbrell, a print maker, who will be using the surrounding nature as a basis for her linocuts.

The Three Little Ducks park at Levi Oval will be home to chalk art by LennieDin, the only art that will disappear over time.

At Willow Bend Reserve, local painter Alice Kleinig will be using the River Torrens to inspire her abstract expressive piece.

Finally, at Hamilton Reserve, two artists will be producing unique artwork live, including potter Zein Akkad – who will be creating nature-themed cups and bowls on the wheel to accompany a larger hand crafted garden sculpture – and painter Jordan Vick.

Once completed, the six permanent art pieces will be on display at the Civic & Community Centre for a few weeks before they make their way to their new home.
