The Corporation of the Town of Walkerville is committed to keeping it's suburbs clean and waste free.

If you require replacement bin lid pins, please phone 8342 7100 or come into our offices and request replacements.

For all other bin enquiries, please contact East Waste on 8347 5111 or east@eastwaste.com.au

Through an agreement with East Waste, The Corporation of the Town of Walkerville offers the following services;

  • Collection of Household waste, on a weekly basis, using a 140 litre bin with a blue lid.
  • Collection of Household Recycling, on a fortnightly basis (alternating with green waste collection), in a 240 litre bin with a yellow lid.
  • Collection of Household Green waste, on a fortnightly basis (alternating with recycling collection), in a 240 litre bin with a green lid.

The Town of Walkerville supplies the blue and yellow lidded bins, with the cost funded from Council's rate income.

With the exception of the green waste bin, bins are not the property of the resident, but instead belong to the address at which they reside.

Green organics bins can be ordered for a cost of $35. The cost of the green bin is to be born by the resident and paid to East Waste directly. To purchase a bin, please email East Waste at east@eastwaste.com.

To prevent polystyrene from becoming lodged and stuck inside your landfill bin, blocking materials from being emptied, please ensure that the polystyrene is placed inside of a plastic bag and broken up into small pieces. Make sure the bag is tied at the top to prevent pieces from falling out and expel any air inside of the bag before sealing it.

Clean, white, rigid polystyrene packaging foam from electrical goods, furniture, homewares and toys can be recycled through the following options:

1. Electronics Recycling Australia, 301 Grand Junction Road, Ottoway (weekdays 8am-4pm)
2. NAWMA Resource Recovery Centre,  gate 3 Bellchambers Road, Edinburgh North (any day of the week)
3. Coolfoam, 25 Barfield Crescent, Edinburgh North (weekdays 8am-3pm)
4. Return it to the store where you purchased the goods from(e.g. Harvey Norman, Good Guys, Bunnings etc. and ask them to recycle the packaging. They are likely to have a compactor for the polystyrene at their premises and will then send this off for recycling as it is much cheaper to recycle it than pay for a landfill skip for it. It also encourages these retailers to put pressure back on their suppliers to choose more sustainable and easily recyclable packaging such as moulded cardboard instead).

X-ray recycling

Residents can drop off old or unwanted X-rays directly to EcoCycle South Australia at 1a Portsmouth Court, Gillman SA 5015 – open from 7am to 5pm weekdays – for recycling.

X-rays cannot be placed in the yellow lid recycling bins due to the item being flat and because it can get caught in the paper/cardboard stream, as well as due to its plastic coating with a silver halide emulsion – which needs to be separated for recycling.

The Town of Walkerville offers an 'at call' collection service. Residents are entitled to one free hard waste collection each financial year.

Place your hard rubbish out for collection no more than 24 hours prior to your booked collection day.

Your amount of hard rubbish must not exceed 2 cubic metres (2m long x 1m wide x 1m high), the equivalent of a standard trailer load.

Please ensure that you only place acceptable items out for collection. Click here for a list of items that CAN and CANNOT be collected.

Excess or unacceptable items will not be collected and residents will be required to remove these items from kerbside within 24 hours of collection. Failure to do this, may result in your Council undertaking enforcement action.

Bookings are essential. You can choose a suitable date from available dates listed in the self-service portal. Please do not place items kerbside without having a booking.
