Graffiti Removal

Graffiti

Graffiti damage in the Township

Sometimes people decide to leave unauthorised graffiti or markings around the Town of Walkerville area.

Graffiti can include writing, tagging or drawing on a wall, building or item that could be Council-owned property or private property.

Graffiti vandalism is a crime which costs the community both time and resources. It can also cost the community in other ways through loss of civic pride, devaluing property and generating a sense of fear and anger within the community.

It is vital that if you come across graffiti, or see it happen in action, you report it to the relevant body.

Report graffiti to police

To report an offence in progress, call the police on 131 444.

If you have information about graffiti, call Crime Stoppers SA on 1800 333 000.

If you have any questions, contact the Crime Prevention section at your nearest police station or go to www.police.sa.gov.au

Report graffiti on Council property

Council aims to remove graffiti as soon as possible, either after it is reported or when Council becomes aware of it.

Graffiti vandals like to see their marks or tags scrawled across walls or fences, as it gives writers recognition, respect and street fame among their peers. If these tags can be quickly removed, it defeats the purpose of the vandal and makes the activity much less rewarding.

If accessible, Council endeavours to promptly address graffiti and markings (particularly if graffiti is offensive).

Graffiti on Council-property includes bins, benches, signs (except on Department of Infrastructure (DIT) roads, e.g. Stephens Terrace, Ascot Avenue, North East Road, Northcote Terrace, Nottage Terrace and Park Terrace), some bus shelters and Council buildings.

To report graffiti, contact Council on 8342 7100 or email walkerville@walkerville.sa.gov.au.

Unlike many other metropolitan councils, the Town of Walkerville does not have a dedicated team of volunteers to attend to graffiti in the area.

For that reason, all graffiti removal is undertaken by Field Staff from Town of Walkerville.

Given the limited resources, graffiti removal may need to be delayed as Field Staff works need to be prioritised. Council does its best to schedule works accordingly, and attend and maintain the Township as a whole.

Graffiti on private property

Council is unable to remove graffiti that is done on private property.

The responsibility of removing graffiti on private property rests with the property owner.

If you are looking for a graffiti remover, Council suggests contacting World's Best Graffiti Removers - www.worldsbest.com.au - as they can provide advice on options for removing graffiti.
