The Town of Walkerville is passionate about planting and protecting street trees. Every street tree becomes part of what we call our ‘urban forest’ and increases canopy cover in this area. Our urban forest (public and private land) covers approximately 25% of the Township and we have about 28 different species which account for more than 4000 street trees in the area.
Council has developed an Urban Forest Management Policy to ensure street tree management and replacement is done according to current practices and takes into consideration elements of tree species, infrastructure location and future development (urban infill).
The policy is in line with the Urban Forest Strategy.
A section 221 application form must be submitted for any proposed works or changes to Council roads, verges and streets.
