Create a Christmas-themed float for the Walkerville Miniature Christmas Pageant

The Walkerville Community Committee (WCC) is holding a Christmas-themed Miniature Pageant Float Competition, where residents, community groups and local businesses can showcase their holiday spirit by designing and creating a mini float that celebrates the magic of Christmas in Walkerville.

With the theme - 'A Walkerville Christmas Wonderland' - participants are encouraged to create floats that reflect the festive spirit, traditions and joy of Christmas, with a special nod to our beautiful Town.

All entered floats will be on display at the Walkerville Miniature Christmas Pageant, held in the Walkerville Town Hall from 9-16 November 2024 during Council business hours.

Competition:

The floats will be displayed and judged during the Walkerville Miniature Christmas Pageant.

Walkerville Community Committee members will judge the winning floats, with winners receiving a $50 gift voucher and a feature in Town of Walkerville's Weekly Round Up newsletter.

The floats should be inspired by the theme - "A Walkerville Christmas Wonderland".

There are two categories:

  • Most Festive Float (open to all ages); and
  • Children's Float Award (12 years old and under).

Floats will be judged on:

  • Christmas spirit - how well the float captures the essence of the holiday season;
  • creativity - originality and imagination in the float design;
  • relevance to theme - how well the float represents the theme, "A Walkerville Christmas Wonderland"; and
  • community spirit - the float's ability to express the essence of the Walkerville community during the holiday season.

Float specifications:

Floats should not exceed 50cm in length, 30cm in width and 30cm in height.

Any materials can be used, but the float must be sturdy enough for display through the Walkerville Miniature Christmas Pageant event.

The float should be mobile and designed to be carried.

If your float includes mechanics, such as moving parts or lights, or requires electricity, please notify staff when dropping off the float.

Additional requirements:

  • entries must be the original work of the participant; and
  • Town of Walkerville reserves the right to photograph the floats for promotional purposes.

How to enter:

Floats must be provided to the Civic & Community Centre by 4pm on Friday, 8 November 2024.

Please leave your name, contact details, suburb, float name or description, and age group with staff at the Civic & Community Centre.

The WCC will contact you following the competition about whether you won a prize or if you need to pick up your float.

Winning floats will be added to the WCC's miniature float collection. All other floats will need to be picked up before the end of the year.
