New Deputy Mayor appointed
Congratulations to Councillor Jay Allanson, who was appointed Deputy Mayor at Monday's Ordinary Council Meeting.
Cr Allanson has lived in the Township for over five years. As an experienced police officer and detective, he brings to Council over 15 years of commitment to community engagement and resolving public concerns.
Cr Allanson has a focus on increasing Local Government transparency and a specialised interest in criminal and public sector investigations. His priority while at Council is community growth, as he understands the pressures faced by the rising cost of living.
Cr Allanson will hold the position of Deputy Mayor until 20 November 2025.
Council thanks Cr John Zeppel for his service as Deputy Mayor for the past 12 months.
Q&A with Jay
Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
A: I deal with all types in my day job but don’t ask me to mess with anything that has eight legs.
Q: How do you keep yourself busy?
A: My life is kept busy through work with SAPOL and Council, sitting as a member of various boards/committees, studying and spending time with family. I love to stay active by regularly going to the gym and cycling. I wouldn’t have it any other way – if I could give some advice, it would be to not hit snooze on that morning alarm.
Q: What is your favourite part or place within the Township?
A: Without a doubt, riding my push bike along the Linear Park trail. I still time myself, regardless of my slow pace.
Q: What is your key area of focus while on Council and what do you hope to achieve as part of this?
A: My focus is on the functional collaboration of the Council and Administration to achieve our major projects. I hold great importance in our community-use areas and I am keen to maximise their value to all of our ratepayers.
