Walkerville came alive for SALA 2025

Town of Walkerville held its third SALA Festival event - Walkerville Comes Alive!

On a sunny Sunday, 24 August 2025, there were eight artists and nine musicians spotted around the Council area, creating beautiful art and music live!

From the jovial piano accordion sounds getting people to their feet in Medindie to the calming strokes of acrylic on canvas in Walkerville, there was much to see, hear and experience at this year's Walkerville Comes Alive event.

At Mary P Harris Reserve, Nikki Carabetta-Baugh painted emu eggs and was accompanied by musician, Courteney Hooper, who played an electric guitar and sung a range of covers and original songs.

Children adding their fingerprints to clay at Adrian Mitton's ceramic art station at Crawford Reserve.

Howie Reserve saw Kate Jones from The Crafty Brum live paint a native plant scene. She also sold a range of artwork prints on the day.

At Hawkers Reserve, Catherine Nguyen-Hoang was live oil painting, while showcasing her other artworks. She was accompanied by Lino Cardone on the piano accordion and Peri Kowal on the harp.

Live ceramic art was being moulded by Adrian Mitton at Crawford Reserve, creating plant hanging pots to be installed on a Stobie pole in Walkerville.

There was also an opportunity for attendees to have their fingerprints immortalised on the clay. Adrian was accompanied by Morgan Bramble on vocals and keyboard, and Bortier on African drums.

Three Little Ducks @ Levi Park was where Jessica Menzies was located, as she used the Levi Park tennis courts for inspiration in her painting. A lively tennis training provided the picture that ended up on Jessica's canvas. She was accompanied by Jaymi Raine on vocals, keyboard and guitar.

Mia Fan assisting children in drawing birds at Willow Bend Reserve, which will be added to her traditional Chinese ink painting.

Down by the river in Willow Bend Reserve, Mia Fan created a traditional Chinese ink painting and got the community involved by having attendees draw their own Australian birds, which will be added to her painting. Meena De Silva was on vocals and keyboard.

Hamilton Reserve was lively with lots of community art activities to get involved with. Ellen Schlobohm showcased live printmaking and helped her audience create their own native plant prints.

While Fumie Barnett ran a community art activity where people could write a wish on paper and then turn it into origami. This origami was then attached to Tanabata Fukinagashi (paper streamers) to decorate a community art piece. Picnic beats were provided by DJ Sam Lavers and coffee was supplied by TG Espresso.

Throughout the SALA event, a walking band - The Atlantic Street Band - had people up and dancing along the Walkerville Comes Alive trail.
