New citizens conferred during Refugee Week

Welcome our newest citizens!

On Thursday, 19 May 2025, Mayor Melissa Jones conferred citizenship on 15 residents of Town of Walkerville.

These new citizens hailed from Colombia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States.

This event was held during Refugee Week, an opportune time to honour the ways refugees have helped shape our communities and our country.

Mayor Jones said on the night, “Becoming an Australian citizen is the final step in the migration journey – but it is also a powerful beginning.

“It marks the moment when you formally commit to a country that offered you safety, and where now, you can fully participate in shaping its future.”
