Official opening of the new Walkerville Bowling & Community Club
On Friday, 24 October 2025, the Town of Walkerville held an official opening for the new Walkerville Bowling & Community Club, bringing together all the people who assisted along the journey of the redevelopment.
The event was officially opened by Town of Walkerville Mayor, Melissa Jones, and the Hon Lucy Hood MP, Member for Adelaide.
During her opening speech, Mayor Jones said that the new Walkerville Bowling & Community Club was "a long-awaited and very special project for our community – one that reflects both the history of Walkerville and the exciting direction we’re heading in".
Mayor Jones thanked everyone who had helped bring the new facility to life, including former Member for Adelaide, Rachel Sanderson; the Hon Lucy Hood MP; Council and its Administration; the Town of Walkerville community and the Walkerville Bowling & Community Club.
"The formation of the Walkerville Bowling Club dates back to July 1917, when 33 residents gathered in the Council Room at the Walkerville Town Hall to form a new club," said Mayor Jones.
"For more than a century, this site has been a place where friendships have flourished, friendly rivalries have played out on the greens, and the sense of community that defines Walkerville has continued to thrive.
"Today, this redevelopment ensures that legacy continues – with a modern, functional and welcoming space that meets the needs of today’s community and generations to come."
A number of important dignitaries were in attendance at the official opening, including Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Town of Walkerville, Dr Andrew Johnson; former Town of Walkerville Mayor, Elizabeth Fricker; former Member for Adelaide, Rachel Sanderson; Burnside Mayor, Anne Monceaux; and Campbelltown Mayor, Jill Whittake OAM; as well as Town of Walkerville Deputy Mayor, Jay Allanson, and Councillors, Aman Kaur, Steven Rypp, Liz Trotter, Tony Vanstone, James Williams and John Zeppel.
