Refugee Week Citizenship Ceremony

On Wednesday, 17 June 2026, the Walkerville Town Hall was filled with applause as Mayor Melissa Jones conferred citizenship on fifteen new citizens during Refugee Week.

This year's Refugee Week theme is A Million Stories, and is Australia's 40th Refugee Week.

These residents have come to Australia from across the globe, including Philippines, United Kingdom, Nepal, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, China, Vietnam and Malaysia.

On the day, Mayor Melissa Jones said, "Already, we can say that Australia's success as a multicultural nation is underwritten by our values, and our mutual understanding of our rights and responsibilities as citizens. This ceremony will remind you of why our cultural diversity is one of Walkerville's greatest assets, and why we are stronger because of it."
