Citizenship Day Citizenship Ceremony
On Wednesday, 23 September 2026, the Walkerville Town Hall was filled with applause as Mayor Melissa Jones conferred citizenship on seventeen new citizens for Citizenship Day 2026.
Australian Citizenship Day is recognised nationally every year on the 17 September and is an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on the meaning and importance of citizenship.
These residents have come to Australia from across the globe, including China, Colombia, India, Italy, South Korea, Taiwan, the United States and Vietnam.
On the day, Mayor Melissa Jones said, "Australian Citizenship Day is an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on the meaning and importance of citizenship, the responsibilities we uphold, the privileges we share and the values that unite us. Whether we are citizens by birth or choice, it is a day to take pride in who we are, celebrate our democratic beliefs and recognise the diverse stories that shape our nation."
